We can say that we have been extremely happy with all the steps of the process, ranging from the time plans were drawn up, moving them through council, agreeing on terms and conditions, and construction through to final completion. There have not been any days of worry, complaint or loss of sleep.

Rod and his team are very professional and have a broad knowledge on all aspects of the trade and provided many suggestions and concepts, which were incorporated into the final building. His tradesmen are of first class quality.

We have now been in our home for over two years and we are very happy with the final result and high quality of construction. We have no hesitation in recommending Rod to any potential customer.

How do I thank you?...Many people told me I was crazy to build … Well we proved them wrong, didn’t we !? From my very first phone call…everything has just fallen into place, there has not been one problem. So I can honestly say that ‘all you out there that say building is a nightmare, you all had the wrong builder.’…I was treated with nothing but kindness and respect. I have to say that all at Kendale have this genuine calmness about you all, it’s quite amazing.

I’d like to also thank you for the little extras that were not little and not expected but very much appreciated. I’m still in shock at being under budget and in my house in just 10 weeks.

I’ve learnt a lot [through the building process] but what’s most important is that I have learnt that there are people out there that do care and take great pride in their work and are true to their word. From building my home to advising me in all aspects, including helping me choose the colours, explaining to me what was happening at different stages of building and even referring the demolish contractor who help make what I thought a very upsetting time, quite enjoyable.

As you know I have a relative ‘Mick’ who is a builder. He is so impressed with the quality of materials and workmanship, he said he can’t fault anything. .. We had the privilege of working with Rod Pengilley and the Kendale Team when they built our home in 2001. Rod and the team are passionate about what they do and the results speak for themselves. Rod always ensured that stringent OH&S and Safety standards were adhered to on site for both his staff and clients. Scaffolding was appropriately erected. Rubbish was always removed or placed in the appropriate barrier with deliveries unloaded appropriately and within boundaries of the land. A safety barrier was always maintained with appropriate street frontage.

We loved the process. This is the second house Geof has built and he had far less issues this time around. Rod is a fine builder. His attention to detail is amazing. The quality of the work is fantastic. It exceeded our expectations. Rod is proactive, always willing to talk, a pleasure to work with.

For example, we liked the look of a certain sandstone fireplace at a resort in the Hunter Valley. So, without prompting, Rod and Bev went there to see exactly what it was we were after. There is a unique piece of slate in the fireplace that Rod specifically sourced all the way from Victoria. This wasn’t our only pleasant surprise; we thought we were taking a risk with the colours in the family room but when it was finished all we could say was “wow”. We love the scale of the kitchen and the entertaining areas, to see them open out into the living spaces was a wonderful surprise. We love the width of the walkways… and the high ceilings!

The building crew were pleasant and trustworthy. We enjoyed the continuity of tradesmen. Rod puts together quality teams. It was good that he was able to use locals –one of the builders lived within five minutes’ drive of our house. It added a nice feel to it.

We bought the place in 2001 with intent to demolish and build. We are entertainers. The kitchen was to definitely be the centre of the house. We wanted a place where people could stay, so plenty of entertaining space, bedrooms, and private space was important.

We knew what we wanted. The design we had in our own heads, we didn’t want a box. It’s a sloping block that lends itself well to a series of levels, adding interest and space. Unfortunately, the first architect we went to gave us a box. We saw a house built by Kendale on a nearby property, liked it and found out who built it.

We went to Kendale with our 30 page brief (with pictures). Kendale almost had it nailed on the first design. All that was needed was a little tweaking. For example, the pantry became the cellar, the gym the pool room and so on.

We absolutely love it. It works for us. Whether it’s just the three of us in the house or many… It’s a big house but it doesn’t feel big. It’s terrific for entertaining. The high ceilings add so much space. The design was so pleasant through summer we hardly had to use the air conditioner. It’s a big house without the big energy bill.

One of the highlights was seeing the reaction of both of our parents. They were amazed. When they saw it, we were proud. It feels like a resort when everyone is there.

The privacy is excellent. It has different function rooms, heaps of sleeping space, plenty of scope for entertaining. There are social areas and also plenty of places to escape to. One of the surprises of the design was discovering an unexpected living space thanks to the placement of the library and the study, we put a lounge in and my parents love it.

When we’d finally unpacked it was fantastic. We’ve spent nine out of ten days in the summer dining outside on the wide verandahs. It’s like being on holidays somewhere. I work in Sydney and live in a resort on the weekends.

We’ve already recommended Kendale to friends and colleagues. You don’t do that unless you’re really happy!

We wanted to thank everyone at Kendale for the wonderful job they have done in building our home. We are very happy that Kendale was able to incorporate our design into a great and practical home. Many people comment on how great it looks and how well it works as a family home along with the workmanship that has been put into the building of the house. The quick response to any problems we had, made us feel secure that Kendale was a trusted and reputable building company.

We are extremely proud of our house and despite some of the early problems we had in the design stage, we are more than happy to recommend Kendale. If we ever build again we would have no hesitation in going directly to Kendale.

In 1999 we bought a block of land at Macmasters Beach and a year of so later we asked Kendale Homes to do some designs for a modified project home for the site.

The objective was to provide a low cost but attractive holiday house both for our own use and for letting with plenty of accommodation for us and for friends.

We worked with the Kendale team for a few months on the plans which eventually were easily passed through Gosford Council.

The building process took about six months, the house coming in on time and on budget.

We are very impressed by Kendale Homes and their professional team headed by Rod Pengilley. At no stage were we anxious about the outcome, as the design actually improved during the building process.

The quality of workmanship and the finishes is beyond what we expected, given the budget constraints for the house.

We look forward to one day embarking on a more ambitious project with Kendale Homes, which we would be able to do with absolute confidence.

Now that construction has been completed, I wish to formally place “on the record” my sincere thanks for all your efforts in the construction of this house.

Whilst not a large project in terms of your other constructions, it was nevertheless a very important one to me and my family.

As you are aware, at various stages throughout the construction of my house, I retained at my own expense, an independent builder to inspect the house and workmanship of your tradesmen as construction proceeded. It is a credit to your company that this builder stated, at every step of the way, your workmanship and materials used were nothing but the highest standard. He advised me that you had not taken any of the “short cuts” that are commonly taken by most builders and go unnoticed in an attempt to maximise their profit margin. Indeed he stated that you had included many things (eg. Rubber seals on the doors) that builders today simply do not include. He pointed out numerous things to me that were not apparent to my untrained eye and in reality would only be noticed by a builder. His comment to me was “these people come from the old school and know how to build a proper house”.

Over six separate visits, my builder was unable to find a single fault with any of your work and indeed had nothing but praise for it. Bearing in mind that I was paying him independently to find fault in your work, the fact that he was unable to find a single fault speaks volumes for your company. As they say, the highest form of praise is from one’s own peers and I have no doubt that this applies in this instance.

You would be pleased to know that my next-door neighbour (in the recently completed duplex) introduced himself and stated that he had had past building experience. He said to me “I watched your house being built and inspected their workmanship along the way. I wish my builders had taken the same care and put as much effort into my place as your builders put into yours. I have already had some problems but that will never happen to you. Your place will never fall down.”

Additionally I must also express my appreciation for the flexibility shown by you throughout construction. There were some changes made to the original plans after construction had commenced and, at any time, you were too willing to discuss these changes and accommodate me without question. Indeed the input shown by your company in recommending the alterations were much appreciated and undoubtedly resulted in a more functional and better home.

Finally, I have been warned by many on my colleagues that building a house is always a “nightmare”. I am pleased to note that at no stage did we ever have as much as a cross word and at all times our discussions were positive and aimed towards giving me the best possible result. Frankly I have no doubt that this has been achieved.

It is also of pivotal importance that, despite the alterations decided after construction commenced the project was completed on time and under budget. What can I say?

Once again, my personal thanks to you Rod and also to Doug and Syd for all your assistance.

I am more than happy for your to show this letter to prospective clients and discuss same with those prospective clients should the need arise.

Rod Pengilley supervised the construction of our house at Macmasters Beach- it was completed in Nov. 1987. Our House is somewhat unique both in design and construction but Rod’s background in larger construction and his obvious desire to apply the best available craftsmen as well as his own aesthetic judgement enhanced the finished project.

His honest and professional approach to the casting and implementation of additions and variations to the original plan made many frustrating decisions a lot easier. The finished house does markedly reflect his input.
